(Earth science) Internet Marketing Startup Guide For the Beginner
By Gen Wright
When I first started out with Internet Marketing, I didn’t know where to begin. And I bet if you are just like me back then, trying to make your first sale online, you may be feeling lost. Here’s a complete startup guide to give you some direction to make your journey easier, and more enjoyable.
Step 1: Identifying a market that you want to go into.
No matter how good you are, you cannot succeed if you are not in the right market. The right market here means that there is sufficient opportunities for you to make money online. If you are in an inactive market where there are very few partners, very few products, and very few customers, then you are in deep trouble - no marketing magic can save you here.
So how do you go about finding a good market?
Competition is the first sign. Don’t be afraid of competition. The fact that there is competition shows that there is money to be made. You just have to go in and compete. Do it better than anyone else!
Check out some online ads. Look at what others are advertising to get a better feel of the market.
Also, when choosing a market, don’t just choose based on the market potential. It’s not all about making money. It has to be something that you enjoy doing as well. So try to choose a market that you are passionate about. You will enjoy your work more, and be more motivated to take action.
Step 2: Taking that first step - setup a website.
I’m not going to beat about the bush here - you have to learn how to setup a website in order to build your online business. Of course, you can sell someone’s else product and try to avoid having to setup a website. But eventually, you find yourself limiting yourself. In other words, if you don’t learn how to setup a website, you are not taking full advantage of the opportunities on the Internet. You don’t have to learn programming or coding. Just learn how to setup some static html pages and learn how to post links. Usually, if you require a more complex tool, there are free or paid tools out there that are available. So all you really need to know is some basic html knowledge.
Step 3:
Now that you have a website, it’s time to see some action. Everything up to this point is preparation. Now you want people to come and visit your website. You are trying to sell something, and your web visitors are your prospects. Nothing ever happens without traffic, so you have to be really good at this.
There are many ways to drive traffic to your site. If you are just starting out, my advice to you is to use some free method so that you get a sense of how things work online. Make your contact page as visible as possible so that visitors can email you and ask for more details about what you have to offer.

How to Promote an Ecommerce Site
By Gen Wright
An eCommerce site is one of the greatest money making opportunities on the Internet. Imagine having a site with hundreds of products for sale. You will end up making a lot of money.
But first, you need to figure out how to promote your eCommerce site. Without traffic, there can be no sale. Here are a few proven and effective promotion methods.
Method 1: Pay per click advertising.
Using pay per click advertising is one of the best way to promote an eCommerce site. You have an advantage over other product vendors here - and that is having lots of back end products to sell. For example, you bid $1 per click. So $1 gives you a targeted visitor. That visitor ends up buying just 1 product upfront. But now you have the customer billing information. That very same customer is likely to end up buying more products from you in the future.
With more profits, you can afford to bid higher for the clicks. Bidding higher means more traffic, and more traffic leads to even more profits. That is how you achieve growth for your eCommerce site with PPC. In addition, bear in mind that PPC is very scalable. As long as you are willing to pay, you can have all the traffic you want.
Method 2: Article marketing and SEO.
However, PPC may not be for everybody. That, I can understand. Some people just don’t enjoy bidding on keywords all day long. There may be other more enjoyable methods of traffic generation, such as article marketing and SEO.
Actually, article marketing and SEO go hand in hand together. Although they don’t mean the same thing, they kind of complement one another.
For instance, when writing and submitting articles, you are really targeting the active readers on the article directories. Well established sites usually have a loyal base of readers. And when you publish a great article on the site, you end up getting a ton of traffic.
In each article, you add links to your site. That’s how others can click through and visit your website to learn more about your business.
In the “eyes” of the search engines, these links are valuable. The more back links you have to your site, the higher you will appear in the search rankings.
Imagine having your products appearing in Google whenever someone searches for a particular product. You will get a lot of targeted traffic for free, which will lead to sales!
It is perfectly possible to run an ecommerce site and earn five figures each month just from search engine traffic alone. Remember, that is unpaid traffic, which means that you don’t have to pay a single cent for the traffic.
On top of that, you don’t have to spend time adding keywords or managing your PPC campaigns. All you need to do is to write and submit articles on a regular basis. Even when you stop writing, you will still be able to receive traffic from your previously published articles and from the search engines.

5 Free Traffic Building Methods
By Gen Wright
The great thing about traffic generation is that you can either choose to buy traffic, or get unpaid traffic using free methods. Both work fine. But understand that there is always a trade off.
If you choose to use free traffic methods, you are essentially trading your time for traffic. However, free methods remain useful because not everyone has deep pockets to dig into. Furthermore, you should go for unpaid traffic if you are a beginner - just to get your feet wet and try things out. Here are 5 free traffic methods that you can use.
Method 1: Article marketing.
This is my personal favorite. It’s very easy to execute, and it’s been proven to work very well. What you do is to write quality articles and share your knowledge with the rest of the world. When you publish your articles on other websites, you can add your links to the author resource box. Note that your links must be in the resource box. They cannot be in the article body.
Method 2: SEO.
SEO is the process of optimizing on-page and off-page factors so that you rank higher in the search results. When that happens, you get a steady stream of traffic every day. Organic traffic is well known for being easy to convert because the visitor is already actively searching for related information. So if you have the ready solution, the visitor is likely to buy.
Remember that SEO is about link building. You can’t just optimize on-page factors and forget to build back links. Search engines assign rankings based on the number of quality back links you have pointing back to your site. If you have no one linking to you, it’s unlikely that you will rank well.
Method 3: Forum traffic.
Over the years, some forums have become very popular. For popular niches, like Internet Marketing or Web Development, forums have grown to include hundreds of thousands of members. Sometimes, there is a marketplace for you to promote your own product of service. You are allowed to post your links there. However, note that blatant promotion in forums other than the marketplace may be considered as spam and you may get your account banned. So be sure to follow the rules.
You can also add your links to your forum signature so that every time you make a post, you get some back links posted on the forum.
Method 4: Free classifieds.
This method works very well if you have something personal to sell. There are literally dozens of free classified sites on the Internet. They get most of their traffic from search engines. Since these are classified sites, you are free to promote anything you like, as long as your ads don’t violate the rules of the sites.
Method 5: Social bookmarking.
Social bookmarking is a great way to share useful links and resources. Sometimes, groups are formed to attract people with similar interest. Posting links to these groups will help give you the much needed exposure.
